چکیده

Besides, more common and better known somatic pairing of homologous chromosome regions (Painter 1933), another kind of pairing has been observed which involves bands at non-homologous positions along the chromosome(s) . Bridges (1935) was the pioneer to report this type of pairing in the salivary chro mosomes of Drosophila melanogaster, and later Metz and Lawrence (1938) and Metz (1947) observed it in Sciara. Workers like Prokofyeva-Belgovskaya (1941), Kaufmann (1939, 1944, 1946) and Kaufmann et al. (1947, 1948) referred to this type of pairing as the 'non-homologous conjugation of chromosomes' or 'non homologous associations' in the salivary chromosomes of D. melanogaster . Slizynski (1945), however, replaced the above terms with 'Ectopic pairing'.

International Journal of Pharma and Bio Sciences INVESTIGATIONS ON SALIVARY GLAND AND ECTOPIC PAIRING IN DROSOPHILA IMMIGRANS

Drosophila immigrans were examined using the air-dried technique and a salivary gland map of Drosophila immigrans was constructed. The polytene chromosomes exhibit various ectopic associations and it is assumed that these sites of ectopic paring are the active sites of various protein targets; several identifiable landmarks on salivary chromosomes arms were recognized along with the nucleolar c...

The clastogenic effects of Aflatoxin B 1 ( AFB

In this study the effects of AFB1, a mold metabolite, on third instar larval salivary gland polytene chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster were investigated. The various chromosomal abnormalities (= aberrations) as fragment loss from teminal, semibreak, asynapsis, regional shrinking, ectopic pairing on arms of polytene chromosome, were observed in polytene chromosome slides from third instar l...

Restriction of ectopic recombination by interhomolog interactions during Saccharomyces cerevisiae meiosis.

In Saccharomyces cerevisiae meiosis, recombination occurs frequently between sequences at the same location on homologs (allelic recombination) and can take place between dispersed homologous sequences (ectopic recombination). Ectopic recombination occurs less often than does allelic, especially when homologous sequences are on heterologous chromosomes. To account for this, it has been suggeste...

The Unified Matrix Hypothesis (UMH) proposed that genomes may be organised in space, and genomic domains be transcribed in specific sectors of the nucleus [1]. The UMH generalised for normal types of interphase cells, the pattern of Ectopic Pairing observed in drosophila salivary gland cells. The recent publication of the 3D structure of the yeast genome [2] is clear confirmation in lower eukar...

Similarity in base composition of heterochromatic and euchromatic DNA in Drosophila melanogaster.

HE chromosomes of eukaryotes are generally subdivided by cytological and Toperational criteria into heterochromatic and euchromatic regions. Originally, the term heterochromatin was used by HEITZ (1928) to distinguish those heteropycnotic regions of the chromosomes of liverworts and mosses, which remain condensed and intensely stainable during mitotic interphase. The concept of heterochromatin ...
